Ugh…mid-January and where has the money gone?!!
Whether it’s the post-Christmas pinch, or you just want to save a few pennies this week… all you need is this week’s meal plan.
Monday – Deluxe* Veggie Pasta Bake a la Crunch (use up any veggies in fridge and add frozen corn)
Tuesday – Easy Cheesy Jacket Potatoes with mixed toppings… Beans, Tuna & Salad
Wednesday – Oven Roasted White Fish Fillets with Red Pepper, Garlic and Anchovies
Thursday – Beef Rendang (use shin of beef) with Green Beans and Basmati Rice
Friday – Pumpkin and (Ground) coriander Soup & Home-baked Crusty White Bread
*Based on my Pasta Bake. To ‘Deluxe’ your bake, gently fry one large clove of crushed garlic in the melted butter when making the white sauce, and, add approx 100ml of creme fraiche to white sauce after thickening.
On the theme of making money go further, the Friedlanders ventured to Singapore’s newly opened ‘Warehouse Club’ this weekend. (That’s right, we know how to party!)
It costs $50 to become a member (unless you have a NTUC credit card in which case it is less) and is for members-only, so no way round that one. Best bargain we picked up was a 4×32 box of XL Drypers Diapers for $49.00. For comparison I had previously paid approx $100 at Redmart for similar quantity of Pampers Baby Dry. Other good deals included the frozen fish, cereals, Carrefour dried and tinned goods, Frosch cleaning products and the wine and beer. Warehouse Club is located in the Fairprice Hub. You can reach it by Joo Koon MRT, or off junction 40 of PIE towards Tuas. It has ample parking with large spaces, and a very reasonably priced indoor food court with convenient clean toilets. So all in all, a good place to go. We went at 11am on a Sunday and it was not too busy, but was getting busy when we left at 1pm.
